The short answer: Semrush starts at $139.95/mo ($117.33/mo billed annually) for its entry SEO plan. Above that sit Starter at $199/mo, Pro+ at $299/mo and Advanced at $549/mo. If you've read that Semrush costs "$129.95 for Pro, $249.95 for Guru, $499.95 for Business" — those plans no longer exist. Semrush restructured, and most pricing articles still on page one of Google haven't caught up.

I pulled every figure below directly from Semrush's own pricing page on 3 August 2026, toggling between monthly and annual billing to check both.

How much does Semrush cost in 2026?

Four paid tiers, all bundling SEO with AI-search visibility:

Table: Semrush pricing, verified 3 August 2026

PlanMonthly billingAnnual billing (per mo)Annual savingWho it's aimed at
SEO$139.95/mo$117.33/mo16%Freelancers, small businesses
Starter$199/mo$165.17/mo17%Small teams, agencies
Pro+$299/mo$248.17/mo17%Multi-site / multi-location teams
Advanced$549/mo$455.67/mo17%Organisations needing API access

The cheapest way into Semrush is $117.33/mo on annual billing — but that means paying $1,407.96 up front for the year. On month-to-month you're at $139.95 with no commitment.

Why do older articles quote completely different plans?

Because Semrush renamed and re-cut its entire lineup, and a lot of published pricing guides never updated.

The old ladder was Pro → Guru → Business. That's gone. The current entry plan is called simply "SEO", and everything above it belongs to a bundled SEO + AI Visibility track — Starter, Pro+, Advanced.

This matters more than a naming change, because the shape of the upgrade path changed. Under the old structure you moved up within one product as you outgrew it. Now, stepping past the entry SEO plan means moving onto a different, AI-bundled product line — you're not buying "more Semrush", you're buying a different package. If you only wanted more projects or more tracked keywords, you now pay for AI-visibility features you may not have asked for.

Anyone quoting you Guru or Business pricing is working from a lineup Semrush no longer sells.

What does Semrush actually cost once you add everything?

The plan price is the floor, not the total. Semrush sells several add-ons on top, confirmed on the current pricing page:

Table: Semrush add-ons, verified 3 August 2026

Add-onPriceWhat it's for
Additional UsersFrom $45/mo eachExtra seats — every plan is single-seat by default
Lead Generation$90/moAgency Partners listing + verified badge
Base Report$10/moScheduled PDF reports, GA/GSC integration
Pro Report$20/moWhite-labelled, branded reporting

The seat cost is the one that surprises people. Every tier ships as one user seat. A two-person team on the entry plan is already at $139.95 + $45 = $184.95/mo, before any reporting add-ons. Add a third seat and white-labelled reports and you're at $249.95/mo — on the cheapest plan, and that assumes seats stay at their starting price.

Budget against your real configuration, not the headline number.

Is annual billing worth it on Semrush?

It saves about 17% on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, and 16% on the entry SEO plan. In cash: the entry plan drops from $1,679.40 a year to $1,407.96 — a saving of $271.44.

That's a genuine discount, but a smaller one than most SEO tools offer. For comparison, annual billing on Mangools cuts the entry plan by 39%. Semrush's 17% is modest, and it locks up a four-figure sum for twelve months.

The honest rule: pay monthly for at least the first cycle. Semrush has a real learning curve, and plenty of people discover in week three that they use maybe a fifth of what they're paying for. Switch to annual once you've proven you actually live in the tool.

Does Semrush have a free trial or a free plan?

Every paid plan shows a "Try for free" option on the pricing page, so a trial exists. I could not confirm the current trial length from Semrush's own documentation — third-party sources disagree, quoting anywhere from 7 to 14 days, and the offer has changed more than once. Rather than repeat a number I can't verify, check the exact terms on the signup screen before you enter a card.

There is also a limited free account that lets you run a small number of queries per day without paying. It's enough to look up a handful of keywords, not enough to do real work.

Is Semrush worth $139.95 a month?

It depends entirely on whether SEO is how you get paid.

Semrush earns it if: you do SEO as a service. One retained client covers the subscription several times over, and the depth is real — the keyword database is the largest in the category, Keyword Gap is genuinely the best competitive-content tool available, and the site audit runs technical checks nothing cheaper matches. For agency work with client reporting, it's the industry standard for a reason.

Semrush is overkill if: you're a blogger or freelancer researching keywords for your own sites. The uncomfortable truth is that most solo users touch keyword research and rank tracking, and nothing else — maybe 20% of what they're paying for. At $139.95/mo that's an expensive 20%.

What's the cheaper alternative for keyword research?

If keyword research and rank tracking are the jobs you're actually hiring a tool for, Mangools does them for $49/mo month-to-month, or $29.90/mo billed annually.

At monthly list prices that's roughly a third of Semrush's cost — $49 against $139.95. You give up real things for that saving: no deep backlink index, no technical site crawler, shallower data overall. What you keep is the part most freelancers use daily, in an interface you can learn in ten minutes rather than a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Semrush cost per month?+
Semrush's entry SEO plan costs $139.95/mo on monthly billing, or $117.33/mo when billed annually. Above it: Starter at $199/mo, Pro+ at $299/mo, and Advanced at $549/mo. Every plan includes just one user seat — extra seats start at $45/mo each, so the real cost for a team is higher than the headline price.
What happened to the Semrush Pro, Guru and Business plans?+
They no longer exist. Semrush restructured its lineup: the entry plan is now called simply 'SEO' at $139.95/mo, and the tiers above it (Starter, Pro+, Advanced) belong to a bundled SEO + AI Visibility product line. Any article quoting Pro at $129.95, Guru at $249.95 or Business at $499.95 is describing plans Semrush has discontinued.
Is Semrush cheaper if you pay annually?+
Yes, by about 17% on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, and about 16% on the entry SEO plan. That takes the entry plan from $1,679.40 a year to $1,407.96 — a saving of $271.44. It's a smaller annual discount than many competitors offer, and it commits you to a four-figure payment up front.
Does Semrush have a free plan?+
There is a limited free account that allows a small number of queries per day — useful for looking up a few keywords, not for real work. Paid plans also show a 'Try for free' trial option, but Semrush's own documentation doesn't clearly state the current trial length and third-party sources disagree, so confirm the terms at signup before entering a card.
What is the cheapest good alternative to Semrush?+
For keyword research and rank tracking specifically, Mangools costs $49/mo monthly or $29.90/mo billed annually — roughly a third of Semrush's price at monthly list rates. It has no technical site crawler and a much shallower backlink index, so it's a genuine trade-off, not a like-for-like swap. It covers the workflow most solo freelancers actually use.

The verdict on Semrush pricing

Semrush costs $139.95/mo to start, and realistically more than that once you add the seats a working team needs. It is the most complete SEO platform available, and for anyone billing clients for SEO it pays for itself quickly.

For everyone else, the maths is harsher than the sticker price suggests. Single-seat plans, a modest 17% annual discount, and an upgrade path that now pushes you onto a pricier AI-bundled product line all mean the true cost climbs faster than you'd expect.

Before committing, be honest about which tools you'll open weekly. If the answer is "keyword research and rank tracking," you're looking at a $140/mo platform to do a $49/mo job.
