ClickFunnels vs Systeme.io (2026): Is $97/mo Worth It Over Free?

ClickFunnels costs $97/mo. Systeme.io has a free plan. I built the same funnel on both to find where the price gap actually matters — and where it doesn't.

The pitch writes itself: ClickFunnels starts at $97/mo, Systeme.io starts at free. So why would anyone pay $1,164 a year for the first one?

That's the wrong question. The right one is what does the $97 actually buy you — and whether you need it at your stage. I built the same lead-magnet-to-checkout funnel on both platforms to find the line where price stops mattering and capability starts.

The honest summary

If you're launching your first offer, building your list, or selling a handful of products — Systeme.io's free plan does the job and ClickFunnels is overkill. If you're running paid traffic at scale, need a team workspace, or live and die by split-testing — ClickFunnels earns its price.

Most freelancers reading this are in the first group.

Price, with the fine print that matters

Plan tierClickFunnelsSysteme.io
FreeNoneForever — 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels
Entry$97/mo (Launch)$17/mo (Startup)
Mid$197/mo (Scale)$47/mo (Webinar)
Top$297/mo (Optimize)$97/mo (Unlimited)

The headline gap is big enough. But the detail that almost no comparison mentions: transaction fees.

Systeme.io charges 0% on every plan, including free — you only pay Stripe or PayPal's standard processing. ClickFunnels pushes you toward its own Payments AI processor, and if you insist on using your own Stripe for subscriptions, it adds a 1% gateway fee on top of Stripe's cut. On recurring revenue, that 1% compounds into real money.

Building the same funnel on both

I built a two-step funnel — opt-in page → checkout with an order bump — on each.

Systeme.io: Done in about 45 minutes. The editor is simple, the order bump was built in (free plan included), and it published without fuss. The page looked fine. Not stunning — fine.

ClickFunnels: Took longer, maybe 90 minutes, mostly because there are more options to configure. The output looked noticeably more polished out of the box, and the template library is genuinely better. The split-testing tools are in a different league.

The takeaway: ClickFunnels makes a better-looking, more optimizable funnel. Systeme.io makes a working funnel faster and for free. Whether that quality gap is worth $97/mo depends entirely on whether you're driving enough traffic for a 2% conversion lift to pay for itself.

Where ClickFunnels genuinely wins

  • Split testing. Native A/B testing that's far more capable than Systeme.io's. If you run paid ads, this is where ClickFunnels pays for itself.
  • Templates. More of them, and they look more professional without custom design work.
  • Team workspaces. The higher plans give agencies dedicated client infrastructure Systeme.io can't match.
  • Ecosystem. A massive community, FunnelFlix training, and more third-party integrations.

Where Systeme.io genuinely wins

  • Price. Free to start, $17 to get serious. Not close.
  • 0% transaction fees on all plans — including subscriptions through your own processor.
  • Speed to launch. You'll have a live funnel in under an hour with zero learning curve.
  • All-in-one at the low end. Email, funnels, a course, a blog, and an affiliate program on the free tier.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Systeme.io if you:

  • Are launching your first product, list, or course
  • Don't yet have traffic volume that justifies $97/mo
  • Want to keep 100% of your revenue minus processing
  • Value getting live this week over a perfect page

Pick ClickFunnels if you:

  • Run meaningful paid traffic and need serious split testing
  • Manage funnels for clients and need team workspaces
  • Have revenue where a small conversion lift outweighs the cost
  • Want the most polished funnels without hiring a designer

The verdict

The $97/mo ClickFunnels charges buys polish, split-testing, and scale infrastructure. Those are real — but they're solutions to problems you only have once you're already making money.

Start on Systeme.io's free plan. Build the funnel, get the first sales, keep your full revenue. Move to ClickFunnels the day your traffic is big enough that a conversion-rate improvement pays for the subscription — not a day sooner.
